Using Music to Engage Alzheimer’s Patients

Music has a calming effect on Alzheimer’s patients, it can put them in a better mood and more outgoing, improving their quality of life. It has been found to help retrieve memories that could have otherwise been lost forever.

Therapy using music for Alzheimer’s patients:

  • Play Music for the Person- also provides them with visual stimulation.
  • Arrange for Musical Experiences in Which the Person Can Participate
  • Use Music Appropriate for the Person

Many people with Alzheimer’s can sing songs, including most or even all of the lyrics, long after their Alzheimer’s has progressed beyond the point of recognizing loved ones, dressing themselves or even remembering what happened five minutes earlier.
